The Dojo and the Instructors:

Our dojo is a member of Rocky Mountain Ki Society (RMKS), which was founded here in Boulder by Koichi Kashiwaya Sensei (Ki Aikido USA Chief Instructor) in 1977.

Abel Villacorta Sensei, the founder of Boulder Ki-Aikido, was a student of RMKS Head Instructor Russell Smith Sensei, 4th Dan (CSU Fort Collins).  He had been teaching Ki-Aikido beginners classes at CU Boulder for several years. Due to requests from his CU-students for an opportunity to continuously practice Ki-Aikido, he opened the Boulder Ki-Aikido dojo in May 1999. He received his 3rd degree blackbelt (Sandan) in September 2004. He emigrated to Panama in 2009.

After several moves within Boulder, our group finally found a home at the "Way of the Crane" dojo:

Jen Niessink-Trotter and Bill Stanley, both 2nd Dan, were students in the "CU Boulder" classes of Abel Villacorta and Derek Nabel (now head of the Westminster dojo) in the nineties. They stayed loyal to the Boulder Ki-Aikido since and are now passing on their knowledge.
Christian Goldberg earned her 2nd Dan (Nidan), Vladimir Pereskokov and Russell Greenlee their Shodan (1st blackbelt rank) in 2011.

A growing group of advanced students brings great energy and positive attitude into the training. Everybody is welcome to feel the spirit!
